Kate Brandt is a multimedia artist whose work is generated through concepts of performance. She studies, imagines, creates and/or reenacts performances that are inspired from the ordinary and grandiloquent gestures that construct identity, such as the aspiration to really “be somebody,” proving oneself, “getting ahead,” and the ultimate success (or failure) from this process. By using this conceptual foundation as a departure point, the performative actions produced examine the nature of performance and draws out a questioning of what is performance and who performs. Her work spans across various mediums including video, live performance, and multimedia installation. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
